BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Angie Darlington, President
Angie Darlington has been employed at Avis Industrial Corporation since 1987 in various capacities. She was elected a Vice President in 2011. Currently she holds the title Vice President-Secretary and is responsible for board and corporate compliance for Avis Industrial and its nine subsidiaries. She also coordinates and manages all legal matters and any litigation at Avis corporate wide. Elected to the Avis Industrial Board of Directors in 2018, Angie also serves on the board of the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art (Indianapolis) and PHD, Inc. (Fort Wayne, Ind.) where she is also a member of the executive committee. Angie is an active member of her community in Upland, Ind., where she has held a variety of leadership roles.
Angie has been a member of the Avis Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors since its inception in 2006. Over the years she witnessed the profound difference the Borens’ generosity made in the lives of so many. She considers it a privilege to continue their philanthropic mission and vision.
Marylou Habecker, Vice President
Marylou Habecker is an educator, speaker, volunteer, writer, and artist who enjoys helping people achieve their potential. She has held a variety of leadership roles including serving alongside her husband as First Lady at Huntington University (Huntington, Ind.), Taylor University (Upland, Ind.), and the American Bible Society (New York). In addition, she has been a member of the board of trustees of Taylor University, Nyack College, Alliance Theological Seminary, Overseas Council, Project Mercy, the Museum of Biblical Art (New York), Women’s Bible Society, and Path Finder’s Services. Marylou has a strong commitment to mentoring women and has special interests in gifted education, the arts, and underserved communities.
Knowing Leland and LaRita Boren for almost two decades had a big influence on Marylou’s life. It gives her great joy to help steward the Avis Foundation resources to further accomplish their lifes’ passions
Dr. Susan Wilczynski
Dr. Susan Wilczynski is the Plassman Family Distinguished Professor of Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. She previously served as the executive director of the National Autism Center. In addition to her books and research published to benefit professionals, Susan has written books to support parents and teachers whose lives are touched by autism spectrum disorder. She has served on numerous professional boards including the Autism Society of Indiana and the Hoosier Association for Behavior Analysis, and is currently the Coordinator for the Practice Board for the Association for Behavior Analysis International.
Susan is motivated to serve on the board of Avis Foundation because Leland Boren always inspired her commitment to the improvement of lives and communities, particularly through her work with autism.
Marty Songer, Executive Director
Marty Songer became Executive Director of the Avis Foundation on January 1, 2020. Prior to this, she was employed at Avis Industrial Corporation as a Vice President/Assistant to the President working closely with Leland Boren. She continues to be a member of the corporation’s board of directors. Early in her career Marty worked for LaRita Boren who became a mentor, teacher, and friend. Between the opportunities to work for the Borens, Marty was Director of Alumni Relations at Taylor University for over 20 years. Past leadership roles include being a member of the Taylor University Board of Trustees and serving as a director of the Grant County United Way.
Marty was inspired by the generosity of the Borens and is honored to be involved in the continuation of their legacy through the Avis Foundation. She feels fortunate to work with a board of directors that has a strong focus on philanthropy and the Foundation’s mission and vision.
